Get In Touch

Conscious Networks provides a variety of data center, colocation, and cloud services to clients in a variety of industries and geographic regions.  As such, there are significant advantages to working with Conscious Networks.

Since technology is such a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, businesses are always evaluating data center, colocation, and cloud-based models. At Conscious Networks, we believe the answer is not necessarily one or the other but, perhaps a hybrid model where the data resides in the data center with forward-facing information in the cloud. This approach can provide cost benefits, enhanced backup and recovery strategies, and true ownership of data.  Our holistic approach to technology, and access to a wide array of resources, allows us to recommend the best technology strategy for your business.

Recently, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership noted that Virginia hosts the largest data center market in the world and is home to more than 35% of all known hyperscale data centers worldwide.  This provides us access to cutting edge technology, top talent, and economic  advantages.  For example, Virginia was the first state to allow the tenants of colocation data centers to receive the benefit of the sales tax exemption for qualifying computer equipment purchased by data centers in the region.  Check out our FAQs below for answers to common questions.

Enhanced Data Center Services

Data centers are just a small slice of the overall technology pie. At Conscious Networks, we provide enhanced data center services such as:

Colocation

Colocation centers are sometimes referred to as “carrier hotels.” Essentially, you can rent our equipment, space, and bandwidth. It is especially useful for retail and commercial clients who may lack a strong technological infrastructure of their own.

This hardware may include your servers, racks, cabinets, and cable trays.  These services generally provide the “home” for the equipment including power, backup generators, physical security, connectivity, and cooling services. In addition, this equipment may be managed, maintained, and updated by your team or the colocation provider, depending upon your circumstances. Additional services such as network monitoring, backup, end point security and other outsourced IT management services are often provided as part of a holistic solution to technology.

Internet Connectivity

Increasing your bandwidth can make a significant difference in your ability to serve your clients. So, it is essential to work with a company that can accommodate increased bandwidth speeds. Our data center is perfect for clients who have slow-running systems and need a boost to expand their business and satisfy their clients.

Infrastructure as a Service

Also referred to as IaaS, Infrastructure as a Service is a cloud computing service. It allows enterprises and companies to rent or lease our servers for their own purposes. Using rented servers can help with costs, especially overhead costs (since we house the servers at our locations.)

On-Premise Backups

Your data is backed up fast, regularly, and is easily recovered with on-premise backups.

24/7 Network Monitoring

We help ensure that your network is not only up-and-running, but well protected from the latest threats. By utilizing real-time threshold-based monitoring of critical server metrics like network connectivity, server performance, and storage performance, you can rest assured your network is operating at peak efficiency.

colocation

Colocation

Colocation provides you with tremendous flexibility for your IT infrastructure.  If your business is experiencing fast or steady growth, the ability to grow your infrastructure quickly can be extremely valuable.  If your business is cyclical or has dramatic spikes seasonally, these services can result in savings on IT infrastructure, costs, and resources.

While the terms data center and colocation are often used somewhat interchangeably, they are not the same thing.  Colocation is a service that is provided, whereas a data center is a place or location. Colocation is just one type of service that can be provided by a technology company or data center.  It is often provided as part of a larger strategy for technology equipment, data management and/or backup and recovery.

Conscious Networks has operations centers and help desks to provide quick response times and troubleshoot issues, often with a much faster response than your internal staff.  This is one reason that many businesses start with colocation services and migrate some tasks, over time, to an outsourced IT model for their data center environment.  In addition, the network engineers at Conscious Networks have an average of 20 years of experience with access to more technology resources, training, and best practices to ensure that your data and network are maintained at the highest level.  The best news is that Conscious Networks is able to customize a solution based on your business goals and growth initiatives.  This type of flexibility is invaluable and allows you to scale easily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who owns your data in a data center?
In a data center model, you own your data, period. Whereas, the EULA for most cloud-service providers may allow your client data to be utilized for other purposes, outside your organization. Since 2020, there have been many class-action lawsuits filed against very large cloud providers for these policies. The average business may be lured by convenience or pricing but may be unaware or uninformed about the far-reaching impact of data ownership. For these reasons, it’s important to have a trusted technology advisor like Conscious Networks on your side, to help you make informed decisions about technology, cloud services, and the use and ownership of your data.
What is the difference between a data center & colocation?
A data center is a place or physical location whereas colocation is a service provided to host your information technology hardware offsite. Many businesses will evaluate the costs, resources, and elasticity required to determine which options are best for their business. An IT Technology Partner, like Conscious Networks, can be a valuable resource in this evaluation process and help ensure that all factors are weighed and considered.
Are cloud centers less expensive than colocation or data centers?
The pricing structure of many cloud service models like AWS, Azure, etc. seems attractive, with variable pricing, unlimited licenses, storage, etc. However, this same variable pricing model can be problematic when CPU, RAM, and Disk IO costs are based on peak demand and can escalate quickly causing significant increases in average monthly costs. In some cases, cloud services may indeed be somewhat less expensive, but in a large majority of cases, a more comprehensive approach is required. We can help you evaluate the best options for your business.
Choosing between a data center or cloud services?
Since technology is such a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, many businesses are evaluating data center vs. cloud-based models. At Conscious Networks, we believe the answer is not necessarily one or the other but, perhaps a hybrid model where the data resides in the data center with forward-facing information in the cloud. There are several benefits to this approach. They can include cost benefits, backup and recovery strategies, and ownership of data. Our holistic approach to technology, and access to a wide array of resources, allows us to recommend the best technology strategy for your business.
What are the considerations between cloud vs. data center?
At Conscious Networks, time after time, our data centers outperform cloud-based services with increased uptime, redundancy, and annual cost analysis. In addition, it’s important to remember that cloud-based services are only as secure as your team’s knowledge since they require technical configurations within your infrastructure. These configurations can open your entire network to vulnerabilities. Don’t go it alone! Outsource your most valuable information and technology to a reliable technology provider that can help you create the best solutions for your data, productivity, and costs.
Do cloud providers offer a solid backup & recovery plan?
While cloud providers do have extensive resources and infrastructure to manage outages, they often prioritize restoring services for larger enterprises first. This means that if a major cloud outage occurs, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) might experience delays in getting their services back online. This is because the cloud providers allocate resources to the highest-impact clients first, which are usually large enterprises. For SMBs, it's crucial to not only rely on the cloud provider's backup and recovery solutions but also to have an alternative disaster recovery plan in place. This may include using multiple cloud providers, multiple location backups, or ensuring you have service level agreements (SLAs) that guarantee timely recovery, even for SMBs.
