The Senior Server Support Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of server infrastructure across on-premise, AWS, Azure, and hybrid cloud environments. This role requires a deep understanding of cloud service providers’ network stacks, operating system deployment tools, VPN tools, and container orchestration. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing and upgrading hypervisors, implementing backup and resiliency strategies, and supporting server operating systems, predominantly CentOS and Windows. The engineer will ensure high availability, scalability, and security of server environments, supporting a variety of database technologies and scalable cloud instances.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Server Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and manage server infrastructure across on-premise, AWS, Azure, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Cloud Network and Infrastructure: Utilize deep knowledge of cloud service providers’ network stacks, including VPCs, subnets, routing, and security groups, to optimize cloud infrastructure.
  • Operating System Deployment: Implement and manage OS deployment tools for both Linux (CentOS) and Windows environments.
  • VPN and Container Orchestration: Configure and maintain VPN tools, as well as manage container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm.
  • Backup and Resiliency: Implement and manage backup platforms from a variety of providers, including AvePoint, Datto, and Veeam, ensuring backup resiliency and disaster recovery planning.
  • Database Management: Support and maintain a variety of database technologies, both on-premise and in the cloud, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Hypervisor Management: Maintain, upgrade, and optimize hypervisors (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) at on-premise locations, ensuring robust server virtualization.
  • System Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues, optimizing server environments for efficiency and reliability.
  • Security and Compliance: Ensure server infrastructure adheres to security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation for server configurations, processes, and procedures. Provide regular reports on system performance, backups, and incident resolution.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams, including network, security, and development, to support business objectives and resolve complex technical issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience with server operating systems, predominantly CentOS and Windows, in both on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Cloud Expertise: Proven experience with AWS, Azure, and hybrid cloud environments, including knowledge of their network stacks and scalable instance management.
  • Backup Management: Extensive experience with implementing and managing backup platforms such as AvePoint, Datto, and Veeam. Strong understanding of core principles around backup and resiliency.
  • Database Technologies: Experience with various database technologies, both on-premise and cloud-based, including installation, configuration, and management.
  • Hypervisor Expertise: Hands-on experience in maintaining and upgrading hypervisors, such as VMware and Hyper-V, in on-premise environments.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in cloud infrastructure management.
  • In-depth knowledge of container orchestration tools like Kubernetes or Docker Swarm.
  • Strong understanding of VPN tools and secure network configurations.
  • Expertise in server virtualization and management tools.

  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and frameworks.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move server equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Work Environment: Primarily office-based with potential for remote work. Occasional travel to on-premise locations may be required.
